Dubai airport gets rebranded
Background
Dubai airport (DXB) is the busiest airport in the world – in terms of international passenger traffic. It has been No. 1 for the past 5 years. In 2018, approximately 90 million passengers traveled through DXB. In December 2018, DXB welcomed its billionth passenger.
To put this into context, UAE has a population of 9.7 million and a GDP of 380 billion!
Emirates had put up a wonderful picture to show how far DXB has come only in a few decades
Despite its humongous size and traffic, traveling or transiting through DXB is relatively smooth. The security, immigration, check-in queues are almost never too long, and seem to move faster than most airports. The airport is technologically advanced and equipped with sleeping pods and smart gates. And of course, there is the shopping or Dubai Duty Free!
Rebranding
Dubai International, through its Twitter handle, has been teasing this for several days before being formally announced today.
The new brand, with a fresh logo bearing the letters DXB, will see the launch of enhanced technology and newer retail concepts. Dubai Airports said it aims to “eliminate” queues at airports and leverage its use of technology.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said “We don’t want anyone to have to queue. The idea is we will gradually introduce new technology, which will make the processes very efficient and quick. Not only then do passengers not have to wait, that means they’ll have a far more enjoyable experience and we will get greater capacity out of our airports because everyone will be moving much more quickly.”
More power to you Mr. Griffiths, we hope this is implemented sooner than later.
Dubai is at most the third busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers in the last 5 years. Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson and Beijing Capital is busier than Dubai. Facts incorrect.
Indeed. I meant international traffic. I have made changes to the post.
Perhaps you’ve heard of an airport (ATL) in Atlanta, GA in the USA…it is the busiest airport in the world, not DXB. DXB is an impressive airport for sure, but not the busiest.
Of course. Clarified in the post now.
