Why Emirates’ Sale Doesn’t Mean Much

Wife (reading the newspaper): Look, Emirates has announced a sale!

Me: So?

Wife: We should plan for our next holiday and book tickets.

Me: Have you looked at the so-called sale fares? It is not really a sale.

Wife: Why would they put half-page newspaper advertisements then? You think you know everything!

We have this conversation once every three months. When Emirates announces its ‘sale’ fares.

Decoding Emirates Latest Sale Offer

The latest sale was announced in early May and extended till May 30. This was called the Eid sale. Now that the sale has officially ended, let us compare the fares during the sale and after it.

Dubai to Kuwait

During sale – From AED 795

After sale – From AED 855

Dubai to Bangkok

Implied discount during sale – AED 190 (9%)

Dubai to Seychelles

During sale – From AED 2,895

After sale – From AED 3,065

Implied discount during sale – AED 170 (6%)

I took these three routes as representative samples but this should be applicable for all Emirates’ routes. The discount that you would get during the sale period is between 5% and 10%.

Final Thoughts

Please do not get me wrong. I appreciate each nickel and dime saved. However, this is not a ‘Big Sale’ that some news articles mention.

At best, it is a small discount.
