My Best SPG Redemption is Now a Radisson Blu Hotel

a building with many windows

I refer to Sheraton Prague Charles Square Hotel, which is now Radisson Blu Hotel, Prague. I had stayed in this property for 5 nights in 2017-18.  It was one of my best use of SPG points.

My Stay at Sheraton Prague Charles Square

This was a very functional property. The rooms were of adequate size, bed was comfortable and the pillows not too hard or soft. In other words, all you would expect after a tiring day exploring Prague.

However, the best part was the location. This property is located in a wide road very close to Nové Město (New Town). There were some nice restaurants in the vicinity and a lot of variety. I would recommend Lemon Leaf (Thai cuisine), San Carlo Dittrichova (Italian) and Lehka hlava (vegan). Further, there is a nice park right next to the hotel. You can play with your kids or take a nice view of New Town from there.

Another great thing about this property (and Prague in general) is that Uber was quite cheap. We never took a public transport during our stay. Uber was always available and stopped right in front of our hotel.

Finally, there is a large supermarket (Albert) next to the hotel. It was adequately stocked. I particularly liked the wine collection.

Redemption Details

I had booked 4 nights at 8,500 SPG points per night. Fifth night was free. Due to the December / January holiday season, the average nightly rates were $250+taxes. So we got a value of 4 cents per SPG point. This was my best SPG redemption at that time.

In 2018, I stayed at HUUS Gstaad and got a value of 2 cents per Marriott point.

Bottomline

I would love to visit Prague again and this Radisson property will be under consideration. Now that this is not longer a Marriott / SPG property, your cheapest redemption options in Prague are

  • Courtyard Prague City (17,500 points per night)
  • Courtyard Prague Airport (17,500 points per night)
  • Prague Marriott Hotel (35,000 points per night)

Compared to these options, I would prefer the former Sheraton hotel especially when it comes to location.
